Islamic Center Of Brushy Creek - Dome

A site-specific commission that extends the geometric and calligraphic language of the prayer hall upward into the dome.

Architectural Commission

The dome extends the architectural language established along the prayer hall walls. The geometric framework and calligraphy follow the curve of the dome, drawing the eye upward and bringing the composition together around the central space.

Architectural Language
Dome elevation and geometric framework

The design of the dome centres on Ayat al-Kursi, which encircles the space beneath the apex. The calligraphy is integrated within a geometric framework that follows the dome's circular form, allowing the artwork to respond directly to its shape.

Rather than treating the dome as a separate surface, the design continues the visual language established by the wall panels below. Repetition creates continuity as the eye moves from the vertical walls toward the curved ceiling.

Craft & Fabrication

The dome required the geometric borders and calligraphy to be carefully developed to follow the changing curvature of the architectural surface.

Each element was considered in relation to the dome's proportions, allowing the pattern and calligraphy to remain visually balanced as they move around the circular form.

The work brought together calligraphy, geometry, material, and craftsmanship, adapting the language of the walls to a new architectural condition.

A Continuous Composition

As the geometric framework rises from the walls into the dome, the individual elements come together as one continuous composition.

The repeated patterns establish a visual rhythm around the circular space, while the calligraphy follows the architecture rather than competing with it. Together, the walls and dome create a unified language of geometry, calligraphy, light, and proportion.

LET'S CREATE SOMETHING MEANINGFUL

Every project begins with understanding the space, the architecture, and what the work needs to express. Whether you're considering an original artwork or a site-specific commission, we can begin with a conversation.
