Islamic Center of Brushy Creek — Prayer Hall

A site-specific commission developed for the prayer hall, where geometry, calligraphy, and architecture come together as one continuous composition.

Architectural Commission

The intention was to create artwork that belonged to the architecture—not something simply placed on its walls. The design evolved from the proportions and rhythm of the space, allowing the calligraphy and geometric framework to become an integral part of the prayer hall.

From Architecture to Artwork

The design was developed as a series of individual panels, carefully proportioned to the architecture of the prayer hall. Each panel combines calligraphy with a geometric framework, allowing the individual elements to read as one continuous composition.

Craft & Fabrication

Each panel was individually fabricated and finished before the calligraphy and geometric borders were assembled.

Precision was central to the process. Every element had to align seamlessly with the next so that, once installed, the panels would read as one continuous composition.

The work brought together calligraphy, geometry, material, and craftsmanship, translating the design into a unified architectural installation.

Architectural Language

The walls incorporate individually fabricated timber panels, each carrying one of the 99 Names of Allah.

Rather than treating each panel as an independent piece, the designs were developed as parts of a larger architectural language. The geometric borders establish continuity from one panel to the next, while the varying proportions of the architecture required each element to be carefully considered within the whole.

A Continuous Composition

As the panels extend around the prayer hall, repetition creates rhythm and continuity.

Their geometric borders connect the individual names, while their proportions and placement respond to the surrounding architecture. Together, the panels establish a visual rhythm that moves through the space, reinforcing its unity and contemplative atmosphere.

LET'S CREATE SOMETHING MEANINGFUL

Every project begins with understanding the space, the people who experience it, and what the work needs to express. Whether you're considering an original artwork, a site-specific commission, or a new direction for a space, we can begin with a conversation.
