Architectural Screen - TV Nook

A concealed media wall that gives an everyday function a stronger architectural presence.

Idea

The existing television sat within an open shelving unit, with media equipment and board games exposed below. The design involved constructing a new wall within the upper shelf to accommodate a larger, wall-mounted television, bringing the screen forward to align with the new sliding doors. The doors conceal the equipment and storage below, transforming the shelving into a more unified architectural composition.

Concealed Function

The doors slide open to reveal the storage space behind them. When closed, the technology disappears and the wall reads as a single architectural composition.

From Sketch to Space

The design began with hand sketches exploring proportion, geometry, and the relationship between the television and the surrounding wall.

Drawing from the geometry and rhythm of Art Deco, the pattern was refined through the fabrication process and developed specifically for the scale of the space.

The Result

What began as a practical need became an opportunity to transform an everyday element of the room through architecture.

Function is concealed. Architecture remains.
